The European Space Policy Institute (ESPI) is a think tank that provides decision-makers with an informed view on mid- to long-term issues relevant to Europe’s space activities. ESPI is an association under Austrian private law and is domiciled in Vienna. The management body of ESPI is the Secretariat, which is composed of two natural persons, the Director and the Treasurer. The Director is the chief executive officer of the association and its legal representative. The Treasurer is responsible for the financial dealings of the association, assists the Director and is employed by FFG.

FFG is a founding member of the association and seconds the Treasurer to ESPI as an in-kind contribution to support this organisation. We are now searching for a

Treasurer of ESPI - CFO (m/f)

The main focus of the Treasurer is Finance Management, but his/her responsibilities encompass controlling of internal processes and organisation:
  • Overall responsibility for the management of the General Ledger with regards to national laws and ordinances
  • Ensuring of all statutory compliance and the observance of internal accounting guidelines
  • Interaction with funders, customers, financial and fiscal institutions, banks, insurances, tax advisers, auditors, associations and other local authorities
  • Management and monitoring of day-to-day financial operations within the entity and all banking activities
  • Overseeing of the preparation and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities
  • Preparation of annual financial statements, regular and exceptional reports in accordance with Austrian Commercial Code
  • Preparation of annual budgets and forecast
  • Monitoring and reporting on Organisation’s performance against budget and forecast on a monthly basis
  • Exploitation of financial information in order to provide specific analysis and ad-hoc recommendations and reports
  • Handling of contractual and legal issues in accordance with Austrian private-, labour- and association law
  • Facility and IT management, continual optimization of structures and processes


  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Business Administration, economics or similar
  • Additional education with a specialisation in accounting, financing & controlling, or qualified accountant on AT GAAP
  • Thorough knowledge of ACC and national tax law, good knowledge of Austrian association law, contract law and labour legislation
  • Excellent abilities with accountancy system BMD NTCS and Excel
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a financial role in an international environment, leadership experience and experience in a rigorous, data-driven performance culture
  • Excellent command of German and English
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with inner drive and determination
  • Analytical, structured and precise working style and ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural and multinational environment
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and execute tasks as well as to work both autonomously and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment by showing a flexible, proactive and hands-on attitude
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot IT and facility problems that may arise
